Under general supervision, performs professional Occupational Therapy activities consisting of planning, evaluating, establishing and implementing individual and group treatment activities under the direction of a physician.
Will interpret a physicians referral and select an appropriate standardized evaluation procedure. Will evaluate patient in the following areas: independent living skills, occupational performance, prevocational work adjustment, educational skills, play-leisure abilities, social skills and various psychosocial skills. Will interpret the data and develop a treatment plan involving short and long term goals, frequency and duration of treatment. Will assist patient in carrying out these procedures through the design and fabrication of adaptive equipment and orthotic devices, joint protection and body mechanics. Will keep patient and family informed of goals and progress. Will assist with discharge planning by ordering equipment and instructing patient on home therapy plan. May supervise students.
*Education: Bachelors Degree in Occupational Therapy.
*Licensure: Licensure in the State of Oklahoma by the Oklahoma State Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision as an Occupational Therapist OR eligible
to sit for the exam. License must be obtained within six (6) months of
Special Requirement: Incumbents may continue in this position for up to 6 months and must obtain licensure within that time frame.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of the principles and practices of professional occupational therapy and the materials and supplies utilized in the program. Skill in organizing and instructing occupational therapy activities. Ability to interpret prescriptions related to therapy needed. Good interpersonal skills in establishing effective working relations with staff. Ability to communicate instructions and technical information to patients. Some computer skills.
Physical Requirements (with or without accommodation):
Position will require walking, standing, sitting, climbing, twisting, some pushing and pulling of equipment. At times, will need to lift and carry objects.
