Job Description

The Housekeeper provides a clean and sanitary environment within the facility and performs each task in accordance with departmental safety precautions within established procedures and schedules. Adheres to National Patient Safety Goals as appropriate based on the level of patient contact this position requires.

Essential Functions:

The Housekeeper responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

* Performs general cleaning functions in assigned areas

* Stocks supplies

* Collects waste and linen

* Mixes solutions and reorders inventory

* Assists with training of new employees


Reports to the Director Housekeeping

Required Physical Demands (Subject to Reasonable Accommodation):
Standing/Walking: Constantly; activity exits up to 2/3 of the time
Strength (Lift/Carry/Push/Pull): Heavy (Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects)
Talking (Must be able to effectively communicate verbally): Yes
Seeing: Yes
Hearing: Yes
Color Acuity (Must be able to distinguish and identify colors): Yes

Must be able to operate heavy equipment such as vacuum cleaner, scrubber, buffer and Hi speeds, the wet vac system, operating tables and assembly of suction apparatus after adequate instruction.

Environmental Conditions:

Potential exposure to chemical hazards when mixing cleaning chemicals, electrical shock when using power equipment, falls from ladders when cleaning overhead structures, and infectious diseases from bloods and body fluids on soiled linens and contaminated instruments. Handling of containers of linens, glass and trash to and from designated areas daily, assist in lifting patients when necessary, mixing and maintaining cleaning solution, and performing job on wet surface. Hazards are minimal if universal safety precautions are utilized.
