Job Description


This position is accountable for operating the M.R.I. scanner, transportation of patients to and from the department, handling telephone calls for scheduling patients, answering questions, and calling reports of exams. The incumbent must be able to start an IV line to administer contrast fluid. Must be able to handle patient support equipment, i.e. I.V. pumps and pulse oximeters. Must help clean rooms and equipment and order supplies. Must demonstrate knowledge of contrast media injections and reactions. Help supervisor with daily operations of the M.R.I. Department. Must be registered or registry eligible with ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists). If registry eligible when hired, the technologist must become registered within one year of hire and must maintain registry during employment. The incumbent must be able to demonstrate proficiency in operating the PACS computer system.

The incumbent must be able to maintain a high standard of imaging and positioning to acquire a quality scan. Must be able to handle multiple demands simultaneously and keep a helpful attitude towards patients, their families, office personnel, physicians, and associates. Must be able to coordinate patient prepping and scanning to maximize smooth patient flow. Must be available for 24-hour call back with a 1 hour response time. Must be able to help move patients when needed. The incumbent will be responsible for and follow all MRI safety precautions as recommended by the ACR and set forth in the Department's Policy and Procedures.

The incumbent must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in his or her assigned area. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the lifespan and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs, and provide the care needed as described in the department's competency plan. Will participate in performance improvement initiatives. Will assist with other activities as deemed necessary for the day to day operation of the department.
