Job Summary

Responsible for the operation of the Laboratory on the evening, night or weekend shifts. Conducts a variety of laboratory tests and duties according to established laboratory procedures, and in compliance with Cherokee Nation Policies and Procedures, Rural Health Guidelines and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments of 1988 (CLIA'88), and Commission on Office Laboratory Accreditation (COLA) regulations, or any other applicable rules, regulations and guidelines while working under the  supervision of a Laboratory Supervisor and/or Laboratory Director.

Job Duties

Routine duties shall include providing health care services to individuals eligible for services in accordance with the self-governance compact and funding agreement between the Cherokee Nation and United States executed under the authority of the Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act.  Practices only within the boundaries of competence, based on documented education, training, supervised experience, state and national professional credentials, and appropriate professional experience.  Provides health services of a scope, quality, and quantity consistent with Cherokee Nation policies.  Functions as a Shift Supervisor and technical advisor on the evening, night or weekend shifts (off-shifts) and is responsible for the total operations, including directing and or training subordinates (technologist, phlebotomist) working during their assigned shift.  Promptly notifies the lab supervisor of shift problems/issues beyond their immediate resolve.  Collects, prepares and conducts tests on laboratory specimens while maintaining their integrity in accordance with appropriate procedures.  Performs all assays according to the laboratory's protocols and procedures, establishes validity test results, accurately transcribes, reviews and reports tests results, performs all necessary computer functions in order to manage tests data, verify test procedures, and establish the laboratory's performance criteria.  Analyze laboratory findings to check the accuracy of the results.  Ensures that patient's results are not reported until all corrective action has been taken and the test system is functioning properly.  Operates, calibrates and maintains laboratory instruments according to established protocol. Performs routine maintenance, calibration, and standardization on all instruments within an established time frame and keeps accurate and up to date records of such performance and quality control checks.  Recognizes any malfunction of instruments and takes immediate corrective action to restore proper operation of the instrument(s).   Notifies clinician when test results will be delayed.  Follows all safety policies including but not limited to general safety, hazardous communication, Chemical Hygiene Plan and Blood Borne Pathogens.   Adheres to professional ethical standards.  Maintains verifiable records at an institution or facility that has a published records retention policy that is equal to or exceeds the retention required by federal, tribal and/or state regulations.  Maintains the confidentiality of any information received from any person or source about a client/patient, unless authorized in writing by the client/patient or required by law or court order.  Complies with the applicable state and federal regulations in regard to the security, safety and confidentiality of any health services record created, maintained, transferred, or destroyed, whether the record is written, taped, computerized, or stored in any other medium. 



Lead position



Bachelor's degree from 4-year college or university or have graduated from a Medical Technology School approved by a recognized accrediting organization.



At least two (2) years of experience as a Registered Medical Technologist.



To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Database software; Internet software; Order processing systems; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.



Must be a registered Medical Technologist and maintain throughout employment.  Basic Life Support (BLS) certification must be obtained within ninety (90) days of hire and maintained throughout employment.

Work Hours: Night shift 10:30 pm to 7 am; rotating weekends 7 pm to 7:30 am


$27.31 Hourly
